So here is a very basic sequence ..a LEGOŽ guy moves his arms and legs and moves across the screen.

Each movement is a still image captured using in this case a webcam with a stopmotion animation program. The character is moved by "you" a little piece at a time ..your hands taken out of shot  and a picture taken of the new position you have moved the character into..until you have enough pictures (frames) which when played back appear like voluntary movement.
